Abstract

Regional packaged care in Japan contributes to reductions in medical costs Medical costs for thyroid cancer treatment have gone too high for those in need of care, such as the ageing population, argues Professor Hiroki Konno at Nihon University. To counter this, he suggests a system to reduce costs while still allowing patients to attain essential treatment for their cancer, through regional packaged care systems, increased availability of doctors through more hospitals and care systems, and better-specialised hospitals with available beds to treat an increasing number of cancer patients.
