Abstract

WHEN one thinks of parotid cancer, it is usually in terms of primary malignancies. Regional metastatic cancer to the parotid area, however, is a practical consideration, and probably not as rare as one would think from its infrequent mention in the literature. Three patients with such neoplasms are presented here and the literature on the subject is briefly reviewed. Tumors involving the parotid area by either distant metastasis or direct invasion are excluded. Oeser 1 reported a case of melanoma of the skin of the forehead with metastasis to the parotid area. Godtfredsen 2 presented a report on cylindroma of the nasopharynx metastatic to the parotid; Nassif, 3 melanoma of the temple, an anaplastic thyroid carcinoma, and an undifferentiated carcinoma of the scalp all metastatic to the parotid nodes; and Graham, 4 four squamous cancers and two melanomas with regional metastases to the parotid area. Two additional elective parotid dissections
