Abstract

In the context of learning economies, authors stress the importance of (regional) innovation networks in a globalizing world (). The idea of such a network-approach consists in creating “strategic advantages over competitors outside the network” (). From a regional policy point of view, (regional) innovation networks are the attempt to develop a policy tool which allows the strategic promotion of localised learning processes ensuring the regional and national ability to innovate and thus to compete internationally (, ). The empirical background of for such considerations are experiences with regions like the “Third Italy” ().
