Abstract

M. D. W. Jeffreys writes: The following account was written by a man fluent in Zulu, and it describes a consultation he and others had with a Native witchdoctor or nganga some years ago. The account has several interesting features. One of these is the use of a cowry shell, a fertility symbol, to get into touch with his mother.
