Abstract

Abstract The choice of growth variable to be used in the analysis is related to the question of the influence of the national dimension on regional growth rates. Having established in the previous chapter that regional growth rates are closely linked to national growth behaviours, what type of growth should we examine: monetary or real growth? growth measured in Ecus, or in purchasing power standards? In the first steps of the analysis (cf. Chapter 1), annual rates of GDP per capita growth were used with no national dummy or weighting factor. The mapping of the data revealed a strong national influence on regional growth trends.
