Abstract
AbstractSeveral studies have documented the evolution of the Nigeria’s inland sedimentary basins. However, this chapter focuses on discussing the regional geology and geodynamics, tectonic evolution and basinal stratigraphic fills of the basins in Afikpo area, which harbours the lithostratigraphic units of two different basins namely; Southern Benue Trough and Anambra Basin. In addition, account of series of depositional facies cycles of trangressive and regressive episodes and associated local tectonics that controlled stratigraphy and sedimentary fills has been given. Thus, information from earlier published stratigraphic charts and geologic maps that captures these geologic events have been integrated to better understand the underlying lithostratigraphic units across the area and the overall geologic framework of Afikpo area.
