Abstract

Abstract The Devils Lake recreational fishery is an important industry and source of revenue for selected sectors in a multicounty regional economy in North Dakota. Total estimated expenditures by Devils Lake anglers during the 1983–84 fishing season were $12 million. The actual economic impact of these expenditures in the regional economy, however, depends on anglers' residence and on assumptions regarding anglers' activities in the absence of the fishery. Estimates of the annual increase in personal income (i.e., value added) generated by the fishery range from a conservative $1 million to an optimistic $6 million.
