Abstract

In 1995, the five UN regional commissions continued efforts to promote economic and social development in their respective regions. Four commissions met for regular sessions during the year: the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand; the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) in Geneva; and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in Beirut, Lebanon. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) did not meet in 1995, having held its most recent biennial session in 1994.
