Abstract

PERIOPERATIVE MANAGEMENT of the adult patient with congenital heart disease and a right-to-left shunt can be challenging. Regardless of which anesthesia technique is chosen, it is important to avoid a decrease in systemic vascular resistance or an increase in pulmonary vascular resistance, either of which could worsen cyanosis. A 58-year-old woman with Eisenmenger syndrome who presented for resection of a left carotid body tumor and underwent a regional technique for this surgery is presented.
