Abstract
Color image segmentation and color preservation a major requirement of various applications equipped in the image processing. In this article we have focused our research on the color image segmentation using region merging approach. The segmentation process comprises of two stages, (a) Retrieving the foreground and background mask using mean shift algorithm and (b) Region Merging on behalf of histogram defined maximal similarity index using Bhattacharya coefficient. The simulation outcome proves the significance of the proposed approach for solving the issue of color preservation
