Reginald Heber Fitz, MD, LLD (1843-1913): Memorial Addresses.

Abstract

Occasionally one puts his hands on a little memorial volume hiding on the dust-laden shelves of a second-hand bookstore and the book suddenly brings back afresh the memory of a person, gone from the currency of our thoughts. We think why he was thought worthy of having a memorial service and having the material gathered together in a book. The people giving memorial addresses on the occasion of Reginald Fitz's death in November 1913 included W. W. Keen, who was Emeritus Professor of Surgery at Jefferson Medical College, Charles W. Eliot, President Emeritus of Harvard, William Sydney Thayer, Professor of Clinical Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, and William T. Councilman, Shattuck Professor of Pathological Anatomy at Harvard. These were prominent people, honoring a physician of great distinction whose contributions were sound and whose personality and character were memorable also.
