Abstract
The performance of regenerated silica gel in the modified soxhlet extraction was reported in this work. After being used as the absorbent for separating polar and non-polar lipids from soybean deodorization distillate (SODD), lipids absorbed on silica gel was removed by using ethyl acetate as the solvent. The regeneration was completed by thermal treatment at 150 °C for 1 h of the desorbed silica gel. The regenerated silica gel was free of residual lipids and solvent (ethyl acetate). By employing the regenerated silica gel as absorbent in modified sohxlet extractor, it was possible to separate most squalene (96% recovery) and fatty acid steryl esters (92% recovery) from SODD. However, specific surface area of the regenerated silica gel was only about 83 % of that of the fresh silica gel. This was the result of aging during regeneration
