Abstract

This paper addresses the use of the regulator of reframe for families where one family member may be pushing for quick change while other family members may be very cautious about changing. A member's change is presented as a necessary balance to another member's desire for more rapid change, in order to insure a firm, and lasting solution. The regulator reframe is based largely in Fisch et al.'s general intervention of going slow and Bateson's concept of multiple communication. Two case examples are presented in which the regulator reframe was implemented resulting in a successful and a less successful outcome.
