Abstract

Unexplained refractory hypochromic anemia in association with benign lymphoid masses has been described on several occasions. A 7-year-old boy with a malignant lymphoma presented with anemia which, as judged by serum iron, iron binding capacity, and ferrokinetics, resembled iron deficiency anemia. However, the administration of oral and parenteral iron in large doses failed to alter the hemoglobin concentration. Some aspects of the pathogenesis of the anemia are discussed
