Abstract

The article analyzes the formation of the general adult education system in the Urals in the context of the all-Russian modernization process. The focus is on structural and organizational aspects of general adult education system reforming mainly in the years of 1936 and 1937, it is the period when government was searching for a new structure of general education system, while keeping the struggle for the eradication of illiteracy. Analysis of documents of regional archives revealed local peculiarities of the process in the region. The author characterized the conditions that influenced the formation of the structure and system of adult education. Among them, the author for the first time observes the role of famine and food difficulties which resulted in the dropping out of working pupils and the closing of schools for adults. The author concludes that the struggle for the eradication of illiteracy has reached a new level, significant results have been achieved.
