Abstract

In this letter, we report a reflective zoom lens based on liquid metal, which consists of the primary tunable reflective lens and the secondary tunable reflective lens. The primary lens is composed of glass coated with a ring-shaped reflective silver film and a tunable elastic film. The secondary mirror is composed of liquid metal and a tunable elastic film. The proposed reflective zoom lens can greatly shorten the rear working distance and reduce the length of the system. The experiment shows the focal length of the proposed lens can be achieved from ∼56.29 mm to ∼85.76 mm, the zoom ratio reaches ∼1.52╳ and the angular resolution is 39″27. It has potential applications in a variety of miniaturized systems, such as handheld telescopes, cameras and so on.
