Abstract

A method of using exact incident phase for the design of reflective beamforming metasurface is presented. Unlike conventional reflectarrays limited to point-source illumination or similar hence a stable phase center for simplified design, the proposed method addresses reflective beamforming with a more general (non-spherical-wave) source, from which the exact incident phase is used. For proof of concept, a reflective metasurface is designed to a non-spherical wave of convex wavefront. Beam steering at a specified angle is achieved by designing the composing unit cells of the metasurface. The proposed method paves the way for reflective beamforming with arbitrary primary sources.
