Abstract
The MARBLE project was a 3-year professional learning research project in mathematics education with three parallel foci. The measurement aspects of the research –whole-project based analysis of change for teachers and students across time as a result of the professional learning workshops – are reported in Section 1. Discussion of case studies carried out in the project, predominantly individualschool based and related to a particular professional learning topic chosen by the teachers in the school, is covered in Section 2. Section 3 contains specific examples of topic based professional learning. The activities described were mainly developed for joint sessions delivered to groups of schools and are broadly applicable to mathematics programs in the middle years. The material in Section 3 exemplifies writing for teachers that the authors consider to be an essential part of research focussed on teacher professional learning. Section 2 case studies generally include descriptions of implementation within schools, whereas Section 3 topics were expected to be implemented in individual teachers’ classrooms but this was only informally monitored by the project team.
