Abstract

This paper discusses the significance of Analytical Chemistry within the whole field of chemistry in terms of economy, productivity and impact of analytical innovations on the development of Chemistry as a science. It then reports about the competition to define and interpret Analytical Chemistry and raises the question of the future designation of the discipline: Analytics, Analytical Sciences or still Analytical Chemistry? Finally examples for future-oriented analytical activities are presented.
