Abstract

This article, the fourth in Symbolic Interaction's tribute symposium, is adapted from remarks made at a memorial ceremony for Tamotsu Shibutani held on October 23, 2004, at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The author was a student of Shibutani in the mid-1980s through early 1990s.
