Abstract

Education is a form of social policy, a means by which society distributes power and privilege. The level of entrance into the occupational world is sharply determined by the level that is attained in the educational world. Education institutions reflect the dominant values of the society in the manner in which they are organized and by the way in which the various ethnic, religious and socioeconomic groups are received and treated. The faults of our society are clearly mirrored in the schools. The public schools bear the heaviest responsibility for promoting those values which identify a group's consciousness of itself.
