Abstract

The imaginary occupies a central position in art therapy. Therefore it is important to clearly understand its mechanisms. The work of the philosopher Gaston Bachelard is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the life of images. In the text that follows, the imagination and its contribution to the process of healing in art therapy will be examined in light of the philosopher's writings. The study of dreaming and formal, material and dynamic characteristics of the imaginary will help us understand how the imaginary can stimulate the subject and open a path to change. The consequences for the practice of art therapy are emphasized.
