Abstract

The paper aimed at studying the directions of English language teaching and learning in the English medium schools in India. It also explored the pedagogical practices to make English language teaching student-centred. The various trends and challenges had been pondered on to understand the difficulties in learning the language in spite of having it as a subject for so many years. To conclude, the paper outlines the current state of the field while illustrating impactful pedagogical approaches by exploring how current research conceptualizes and operationalizes critical literacies in English Language Teaching.
