Reflections on Carol H. Meyer's Writing and Teaching

Abstract

Carol H. Meyer (1924–1996) was a leading social work scholar whose lines of inquiry included the nature and purpose of social work practice, the place of private practice, social work language, and the relationship between research and practice. In addition, Meyer developed the ecosystems perspective. Tracing Meyer's writing and teaching, which were often provocative and challenged the status quo, I maintain that Meyer's broad and diverse contributions to social work remain highly significant for today's social work practitioners and educators.
