Abstract
Reflection theory (R.T.) forms the basis of what might be called official Soviet epistemology and can be considered the ideological core of the system of philosophical sciences of dialectical materialism, the "universal truth of an integral materialist view of the world"l. The definition of cognitive activity as reflectory is of importance to an understanding of the essence of man and has decisive methodological consequences in sociology, ethics, esthetics, psychology, and other humanistic sciences. Hence, any attempt to further develop Soviet philosophy must take account of the basic dogma of Reflection Theory.
