Abstract

We show how the description of multislit interference can easily be extended from gratingdiffraction to include reflection and refraction when the spacing between ruled linesbecomes smaller than half the light wavelength. This extended description, presentable toan undergraduate audience, brings out the unity of geometrical and physical optics in atraditional optics course.
