Abstract

Thus far, despite an abundance of Russian papers dealing with "controllable directional reception" (CDR), no clear-cut description of CDR has been found. The Translations Committee of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists is continuing its search for an appropriate presentation. Meanwhile it is apparent that this method is considered to be the most successful seismic exploration tool in the USSR, and it seems in order to make our readers aware of its existence. This paper complements L. A. Yemshanov's two papers, published in this issue on p. 1158 – 1170, explains the workings of CDR and serves as an introduction to the method, using only conventional mathematics. The description is as informative as can be found up to now. — A. J. Hermont.
