Abstract

A model for calculation of the reflection coefficient for scattering of energetic beams at glancing incidence from a crystal surface is presented. The numerical integration of Newton's equation of motion is implemented in a two-dimensional model of scattering from a potential with cylindrical symmetry. The critical transverse energy of the primary projectile for penetration of the target is determined for a (111) crystal surface along the [1 10] direction. A comparison with results obtained using the binary collision approximation (sequential binary collision model) is made.
