Abstract

We report on the reflection of metastable argon atoms from an evanescent wave enhanced by means of a dielectric wave guide by two orders of magnitude in intensity. This allows to reflect atoms with an incidence velocity of up to 3 m/s. We compare the experimental results to a theoretical model by means of a Monte-Carlo simulation.
