Abstract

A cavity-resonator-integrated guided-mode resonance filter (CRIGF) consisting of a grating coupler and a pair of distributed Bragg reflectors on a waveguide has been proposed and investigated to provide a narrow-band reflection with small aperture. Reflection efficiency as well as reflection phase are important issues for application of a CRIGF to a mirror especially in a micro cavity laser. A CRIGF integrated in a channel waveguide is demonstrated at operation wavelength of around 850 nm, and its optical characteristics are presented. An integration of a CRIGF with a high-reflection mirror, namely, a cavity-resonator-integrated guided-mode resonance mirror (CRIGM), is also demonstrated as a new type of mirror with large reflection-phase variation against wavelength shift.
