Abstract
Introduction: Virtual Reality (VR) simulation is increasingly used in basic task and procedural Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) training. Training to expert proficiency has been established as an efficient means to enhance skill acquisition but has not been demonstrated using the Lap Mentor II (Simbionix, Cleveland, OH) simulator. This research assessed the validity and relevance of proficiency-based task training of novices to published expert performance levels. Methods: Twenty three laparoscopy-naive students were enrolled.
