Abstract

Fluorescence quenching by electron transfer was studied theoretically in the case where diffusion of fluorescence and quencher molecules can be neglected. Starting from an exact expression, a simple equation was derived on the basis of physically reasonable assumptions which is similar to the Perrin equation but refines it. This equation closely follows the exact one. By using this equation, the parameters of fluorescence quenching can be obtained from experiment with reasonable accuracy.
