Abstract

The above investigations of a piston manometer made it possible to establish the following. 1. The piston system with a spasmodic counterpressure has a small deformation over a wide pressure range, thus ensuring a small deformation correction for the manometer. The application of spasmodic counterpressure and self-loading of cylinders made of EP592 steel ensures the operation of the piston system in the elastic deformation range up to 2.6 GPa and the measurement of pressures with an error of ±0.1%. 2. The measurement of the phase equilibrium pressures of mercury at two reference points, the calibration of manganin manometers, and the measurement of the phase transition pressure of bismuth have shown the suitability of the instrument both for testing operations and for physical investigations in the range of high pressures.
