Abstract
The shed more light on the current controversy on s-wave boson condensation in dense matter, we examine in detail how the off-shell behavior of the low-energy pion-nucleon scattering amplitudes influencex the in-medium pion effective mass. Based on this study we make critical comments on the conventional treatment of kaon condensation à la Kaplan and Nelson.
