Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper addresses the role of spatial planning as a means to promote territorial cohesion in Europe. We first present three key challenges for Europe’s future. Secondly, we explore (i) what European spatial planning would need to do to tackle the key challenges, (ii) the actual relationship between spatial planning and EU policies, and (iii) access points to increase the strategic fit between spatial planning and EU Cohesion Policy. Based on this, we derive some more general conclusions on the future perspectives of European spatial planning.
