Abstract

The redundant nerve roots syndrome (RNRS) of the cauda equina is a rare anatomo clinical entity defined by the association between severe stenosis of the lumbar spinal canal and the presence of elongated tortuous nerve roots. Surgical treatment, in addition to decompressive laminectomy, may also require an expansive dural plasty. We report the rare case of an achondroplasic patient with RNRS and review the relevant literature emphasising the primary diagnostic role of myelography in selected cases of severe lumbar spinal canal stenosis.
