Redundancy optimization in consideration of uncertainty

Abstract

The redundancy optimization policies for system reliability improvement have been studied in recent literature. In this paper, the uncertainty of the system environment is considered and the concept of system robustness is introduced to the redundancy optimization. The system robustness is considered as an inherent system ability to resist the uncertainty of the system environment. Two new criteria are suggested for selection of the component for parallel redundancy. An example is given to illustrate the new optimal policy.
