Abstract

Abstract Addition of Sodium dithionite (Na2S2O4) to aqueous carbon tetrachloride solutions (∼650 mg/L) resulted in CCl4 concentrations lower than 2.5 mg/L after 2.5 h and in undetectable concentrations after 4-5 h of reaction. The main product of the reductive dehalogenation of CCl4 by Na2S2O4 was found to be the trichloromethanesulfinate (CCl3SO2−) anion.
