Abstract

WCl 6 was reacted with excess allyltrimethylsilane in diethyl ether solution at low temperature. The main product in the reaction was shown to be WCl 5(OEt 2) which was isolated as black—green air- and moisture-sensitive crystals. WCl 5(OEt 2) was reacted with different Lewis bases, e.g. pyridine and 9-fluorenone to yield the new compounds WCl 5 (pyridine) and WCl 5(9-fluorenone). The latter most likely being an oxygen bonded complex.
