Abstract

>We analyze the dynamics of systems in which some degrees of freedom obey quantum mechanics and other are described by deterministic, classical equations. Interactions between the two lead to non-linear effects in the quantum system and, provided that the coupling is above a certain threshold, collapse of the wavepacket. The influence of dissipation and possible consequences for experiments on macroscopic quantum effects are discussed.
