Abstract

The authors measured the noise levels at various sites in air distributors by tape recording with a phonometer with a condenser microphone and subjecting the tape to frequency analysis under laboratory conditions. A chart represents noise spectra upon air discharge into the air from regenerators. A table shows the sound levels for four different air distributors (BR-1M, KTK-35, KAR-30, and A-8-1) at four separate sites for each (compressor section, control room, operator platform of regenerator unit, and plant territory 30 m from the sound suppressors). The authors conclude that it is unwise to have air discharge systems without noise suppressors because the sound level on the territory of the regenerator unit can attain 120 dBA.
