Abstract

Background Postoperative health education in fracture patients in a structured manner can affect several preoperative and postoperative factors such as pain. Purpose The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Health Education based on the Health Belief Model on pain in fracture patients at the Bahteramas Regional General Hospital, Southeast Sulawesi Province.
 Methods The research method used was pre-experiment with pre-test-post-test design. The Health Belief Model was given to the sample using video media for 60 minutes given 1 day after surgery. Total samples were 29 all post-operative invoice patients with non-probability sampling technique, consecutive sampling type. The data were processed descriptively and the Wilcoxon test.
 Results The results showed that there was an effect of postoperative health education based on the health belief model on pain in fracture patients at the Bahteramas Regional General Hospital at a value of ? value = 0.000 <? = 0.05, before giving the intervention the mean pain scale was 7.00 with a standard deviation of 0.756 after giving the intervention there was a decrease in the mean pain scale, namely 5.17 with a standard of 1.167 with a mean decrease of 1.83.
 Conclusion Health education interventions based on the health belief model can reduce the pain scale of postoperative fracture patients.
