Abstract

Studies were conducted in the field in 1981 and 1982 to evaluate systemic insecticide treatments for control of the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum(Harris), vector and reduce incidence of the pea leaf roll virus (PeLRV) in peas. In 1981, single and multiple dimethoate sprays applied in midseason resulted in up to 85% reduction in the incidence of PeLRV, whereas disulfoton granules applied at planting and a late-season dimethoate spray did not. In 1982, aldicarb granules applied at planting and multiple dimethoate sprays applied in midseason provided 79 and 96% aphid control, 27 and 25% reduction in PeLRV, and 24 and 28% yield increases, respectively.
