Abstract
1. A method was developed for the reduction of the CCl3 group to the CHCl2 group in various compounds by means of the systems: Fe(CO)5-(CH3)2NC6H5; Fe(CO)5-(C2H5)3SiH, and H2PtCl6 · 6H2O-HSiX3. 2. Reduction by the systems containing Fe(CO)5 goes selectively to the CHCl2 group and does not affect CH2Cl, CHCl, OC2H5, and OCOCH3 groups. 3. The mechanism of reduction catalyzed by Fe(CO)5 is not a free-radical mechanism.
