Abstract

A series of 223 cases of small bowel obstruction is reported in which 170 patients were operated upon, with an operative mortality of 6.5 per cent. The hospital mortality for the entire series was 6.3 per cent. If the three cases of complete superior mesenteric artery occlusion are excluded, the operative and hospital mortality rates are 5.4 per cent and 4.9 per cent, respectively.
