Abstract

This paper describes the results of scale-model wind-tunnel testing of a unique ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) conducted in smooth flow for a single wind direction. The mean wind forces and moments were measured using a six-component High Frequency Force Balance (HFFB). The measured wind loads on the PV system were comparable to those in the Japanese standards. The mitigation effects of aerodynamic appendages such as hanging walls and eaves are reported. The maximum reduction of mean-wind-force and moment coefficients occurred with an exterior hanging wall plate with a 70% solidity ratio.
