Abstract

The application of current source converters to drive systems for electric vehicles is investigated with the aim of reducing size and volume of the inductance in the d.c. link. For this purpose a transistorised input chopper is used. The influence of a small inductance on the machine commutated inverter has to be examined with regard to its marging angle, if a synchronous machine is used as traction component. Two methods to minimise the inductance are presented which ensure a good behaviour of the drive. A special simulation method is used to analyse the behaviour as well as the efficiency of the drive system. Results are verified by measurements.
