Abstract

ABSTRACTA compact dual trace omnidirectional microstrip antenna array (DTOMAA) has been designed for WLAN application. The array is then integrated with dumbbell‐shaped resonator (DSR) for reducing cross‐polar (XP) radiation. The antenna is composed of five rectangular‐shaped patch elements arranged alternately on the top and bottom surfaces of the substrate. The antenna exhibits a gain of 12.0 dBi, band width (BW) of 250 GHz, and return loss (RL) of −26 dB. By the introduction of DSR, the XP level is reduced by 7.0 dB without affecting other characteristics like copolar radiation, resonance frequency, and BW of the array. Simulated results show that the proposed antenna offers good impedance matching, high gain, and bandwidth. The simulation results are in good agreement with the measured values. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 56:141–145, 2014
