Abstract

Complexes of CoIII and CoII of the type BrCo(BAE)PPh3 or CoII(BAE) can be reduced to NaCoI(BAE) by Na or 1% Na(Hg).The preparation of stable organocobalt complexes, RCo(BAE) and RCo(BAE)H2O (R = alkyl, vinyl, acyl), by reaction of NaCoI(BAE) with RX, is described.Six-coordinated complexes, RCo(BAE)L (L = pyridine, benzylamine, benzimidazole) were also prepared. The reactions of NaCoI(BAE) with acetylene and acrylonitrile in the presence of water yielding the vinyl and cyanoethyl derivatives are reported.Binuclear complexes (BAE)Co(CH2)4Co(BAE) and [RCo(BAE)NH2CH2]2 are also obtained. The chemical behaviour of the CoI complex shows a strong analogy with that of the Vitamin B12s.
