Abstract

Measurements of the reduction in peak sound pressure level of artillery noise due to diffraction over hills have been obtained and compared to the results of a pulse diffraction theory. It is found that Kirchoff boundary conditions most accurately predict the results. The use of a two-barrier model is investigated. The measurements necessary to resolve the questions raised by this study are also described.
